Steinberg VB1

Everyone knows the VB1, it's that funny little bass guitar synth VSTi included in VST or flying around the www free anyways - Actualy it's quite versatile with lots of bridge & pick seting positions relative to the strings visible - guitarist will know intuitively what the adjusters do, but for total newbies adjusting the bridge setting adjusts the string muffle/decay/brightness.. and adjusting the pick/plectrum at the lowest/nearer to the bridge position means a sharper filtered sound, and you get a fatter, smoother sound further up towards above the pickup position - There is also a basic filter/eq knob (tone) and volume pot controls like on a real bass..
It's a funny little s/w but actualy very passable and you can get away with it as a bass as much as with a cheapish to mid priced synth doing an imitation of a bass - It also does bass-synth-ee sounds, so it has some versatility - add FX like distortion & compression pumping etc to get big Underworld & Orbital etc style pumping basslines..
